Best Loans for the Student

A Student loan is an aid for students that have difficulty in paying their tuition fees. It is also intended for intelligent students that cannot afford high tuition fees. Schools normally participate in many types of student loan programs. There are many kinds of student loans that are recently added to the usual student loans. This would include government loans, direct loans as well as the FFEL loan program.

Under the FFEL loan program, your fund loan will be coming from a certain bank, or other banks that are also a participant in this type of funding loan. This direct loan financing program of banks usually comes straight from the national government's funds. Thus, the students who can apply for a loan also depend on their year level in their school.

Aside from this, the loan will also depend on whether the student has a sponsor or not. Students can borrow or loan for finances beyond their sponsor's loan amount. The school will also evaluate the result and update the student about their loan eligibility.

Listed below are types of Student Loans:

• Stafford Loans (Direct loans and FFEL}: the Direct Loan or William Ford Federal and the FFEL or Federal Family Education loan programs are generally called the Stafford Loan. This is for the parents and students. The students need to sign some legal documents, a list of conditions and they also need to write a promissory note.

Students that are enrolled under the Stafford loan are strictly recommended to finish their two years or full academic years of education. Moreover, the Stafford loan has an interest rate. The interest rate of a Stafford loan is 7.59 percent and will not exceed any further.

Freshman students who are enrolled in this Stafford loan program may borrow up to $3,900 dollars for their academic year. Once these first year students complete their freshmen level, he or she will be entitled with a $4,900 dollars loan value.

On the other hand, sophomore students may acquire a Stafford loan for approximately $5,500 dollars. Once the sophomores finish their educational level, they will be entitled to apply for a loan of up to $7,400 dollars.

Thus, once the students receive a professional degree or if they have graduated from college, they can loan as much as $20,500 dollars every year.

The students who graduate due to the Stafford loan program will then have seven months of a so-called "refinement period" before they start the re-payment process. Throughout the period of re-payment, the students need to accept the corresponding re-payment information.

• Plus Loans: The Plus loan is a type of loan program for undergraduate students. Students who wish to avail of this type of loan should be enrolled for more than one year in their corresponding schools. The Plus loan is also available for parents. This will be throughout the enrollment period.

The students or parents should have a suitable credit history before they can participate in this type of financing. The parents should also complete the Direct Plus loan promissory note and application. Parents are also generally required to submit credit checks.

For parents that did not pass the vital "credit check", they can still get the loan if they are able to present a credit check from a friend or a relative who has a good standing. Hence, the Plus loan program has a limit of up to $3,000 dollars only. This is on a per loan basis.

Furthermore, the Plus loans program has an interest rate that is fixed. The interest rates of the Plus Loan range from 6.90 up to 8.58 percent. Thus, normally, the re-payment method for this loan is only within 58 days after the loan is totally disbursed. After which, the student needs to start re-paying both the interest and principal amount. This is usually once the student is in the school.

• ECU Student Loan Program: The ECU loan program is intended for domestic students. ECU loan for students require financial support from any group or agency within a broader area. The ECU student loan offers the student approximately $250 US dollars and $1100 US dollars.

In order to qualify for the ECU student Loan, the student needs to finish at least two teaching stages of studying. Plus, this would be the case up to their course completion. Furthermore, they need to attend at least three semesters of their course.

Thus, in this type of loan program, the students are given up to one year to re-pay their loan. These ECU student loans actually give the students all they need during the course of the schooling like school supplies and University Textbooks.

• NSLSC Student Loan: The NSLSC student loan is a federal government loan for students that do not have any means of financial support for their studies. NSLSC grants a maximum period of 10 years for the re-payment of the loan. Thus, the funds of the NSLSC student loans come from the income of professional laborers or workers. This would include lawyers and professionals from the medicine category such as dentists and doctors.

Benefits of Online College Education for Single Moms

An education is important to any person. But for a single mom, a college education may be near to impossible. With the time constraints of raising a child, working a job, and running a household, it is almost impossible for a single mom to be able to take the time to get her education. Any online college education is one of the best ways for a mom to get an education and at the same time have time for her family. An online college education can save the mom not only time and effort, but also in these days of high gasoline prices, money.

Most online colleges are asynchronous. This means that the single mom can go to college or go to class any time of day or night. The single mom will be able to interact with the class on her own schedule by adding comments to those posted by the other students on the classroom chat board. The instructor will give out an assignment for the day or week and a mom can complete it at any time as long as she completes an assignment before deadline. If the baby is taking a nap, mom can jump on her computer and be able to type out her lessons or respond to other students or instructor without interruption.

Another benefit of online college classes for the single mom, is that your identity is anonymous. The people see your name in words, but they know nothing about you. You don't have the social stigma of having a child or not going to class because your child is sick. You are equal in that classroom. Gender, race, or any physical appearance is a mute point within an online class. You are there to express yourself in words and those words are taken literally, because they cannot be judged by nonverbal interaction, your appearance or inclinations in your voice. What you say is what you say and you're graded for what you say.

Not only time is saved when you take an online college course as a single mom, but money to saved too. Even though online courses are sometimes a little bit more expensive than traditional brick-and-mortar courses, the amount of time it takes you to drive to class, attend a class and drive back home, is also money that is being spent. Gas money and other expenses add up quickly. In the online college, a single mom may stay in her own home. If research needs to be done, it can be done on the University online library. There is no packing the kid up and taking them to daycare. Just find your seat and go to class. You can simply roll out of bed, get a cup of coffee, and sit in front of the computer and work toward getting an education.

Most online courses are offered in eight to ten week segments. This gives you a chance to go to school for eight to ten weeks and then take a week off. You will get the credits, you'll earn your degree, and you'll be on your way to setting up a better lifestyle, both financially and emotionally for both you and your child.

Basic Math Skills Neglected In Schools

Quick! What is 9 x 12? If you learned it like I did, without even thinking, the number 108 pops into your head. In fact, whenever you hear nine and twelve mentioned together, two numbers automatically come to mind-21 and 108. The first is the sum of the numbers mentioned, and the last is their product. Because of the commutative properties of addition and multiplication, it does not matter in which order they appear; the sum, and the product will always be the same. Not so for subtraction and division, but that's another story.

Nowadays, math is taught differently. Memorization of such facts is not encouraged, and in some cases, arriving at the correct answer isn't even important, but high school graduates need solid math skills, whether headed to college, or to work, according to the National Mathematics Advisory Panel.

Why have teaching methods changed? I have my theories, and most of them center around the sales of text books to schools. When you teach facts-the very definition of which is always true; unchangeable-you need not buy new textbooks very often.

New math notwithstanding, memorization is still best when it comes to basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of small numbers. And it's that instantaneous knowledge of the interaction between small numbers that enables us to tackle the larger, more complex ones. Without command of the times tables, attempting to solve number problems will only lead students to discouragement, poor performance, and sometimes drop out, and even failure.

How many times in a day do we use these skills in real life? You balance your checkbook, measure a room, double a recipe, figure your miles per gallon, calculate cost comparisons while shopping, and more. Hot dogs come in packages of ten, and buns are sold in eight-packs. How do you deal with that to prevent someone from eating a bunless wiener? That may be funny, but the issue is serious.

Study after study shows the US lagging behind other countries in graduating scientists and engineers.

Basic arithmetic facts, such as sum and product number pairs are easily mastered by young children, and when they instinctively know the correct answers, they are rewarded with instant gratification, a sense of accomplishment, and the desire to continue learning. These are excellent qualities to foster in a child. They set the tone for future learning and future success.

A junior high science, robotics, and rocketry teacher at a Charter School in Arizona saw his students struggling with the math portion of his classes, the necessary calculations needed to determine rocket payload and trajectory, and traced the root of this problem to their lack of the basic math skills required. Determined to help these students, who otherwise had a bright future in a scientific field, he devised an audio CD to teach them the multiplication tables that they had not been taught, and soon, they were performing as expected in the science class.

Children who take a home-study course will find themselves far ahead of their classmates who may be struggling with math in school because they lack the proper foundation. And older students who missed gaining this knowledge at the elementary level will find it easier to solve more advanced math problems after using an additional tutorial program.

The news often reports how poorly American students perform in math and science when compared to other industrialized and emerging nations, proving that despite the sizeable cost we pay for education, our schools are not getting the job done. Parents must become involved and seek out supplementary tools if they expect their children to learn, and the areas most at risk are math, science, history, and critical thinking skills.

Bachelors Degree OnlineGet More Out Of Life With An Advanced Degree

You've probably heard the statement, "College isn't for everyone." I totally agree with this. Not every single human being walking this massive planet needs to attend a four-year college and acquire a BA or BS in some particular major. Some of us prefer a military route after high school. Higher education can also be achieved there. Others head for Hollywood with a dream of making it big in Tinsel Town. Plenty have made an utter fortune this way.

There's no reason why you can't be the next big success story. However, that's not to say that a University isn't a prudent path. Studies have shown that college graduates are much more successful in general than mere high school graduates. Therefore a higher education certainly has plenty to offer. Attaining that bachelor's degree opens up doors galore in regards to employment opportunities. So much has to do with what you want for yourself.

Well, the good news is there are a few different ways to achieve that degree now days. You can attend University level courses via a junior college, you can go the old-fashioned route and live on a campus, or you can choose to pursue an online degree. You might want to first let this new-age concept soak in.

An online degree! Hmm, what possibly could that entail? Well, let's ponder the possibilities. You already have a full time gig as an office assistant. Is this interfering with you heading back to college for a bachelor's degree in engineering? If it is, this is no longer an issue. You may have not been able to find time in the past, but you definitely can now with the online degree option.

When you take course via the web, you can not only choose your own schedule, but you can also take care of everything from home. I guess this takes care of the babysitting issue for all of you parents out there. You won't need a babysitter if you're already there.

The aspect of the online degree I love concerns travel and parking. Oh, and let's not forget about alarm clocks. The heck with it all! You won't have to travel to any campus, since school takes place in cyberspace. You won't have to burn extra gas, search for parking places, nor will you have to wake up early to a screaming alarm clock. Consider an online degree so that you can get that higher education on your own terms.

Austin Profiles The Blanton Museum Of Art

The Blanton Museum of Art is a part of the College of Fine arts in The University of Texas at Austin, with a permanent collection of substantial range and depth. It is the principal art museum in Austin, with collections and exhibits on a par with art museums throughout the country. Positioning itself as a gateway between the University community and the general public in Austin, the Blanton is committed to building the finest collections possible, being a vital resource for teaching in a broad variety of disciplines, and to making their offering available to art lovers of all ages.

Originally known as the University Art Museum, the Blanton dates back to 1963, when a new building for the art department designated some gallery space. The Blaton Museum began collecting in earnest throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and gained a large group of important paintings from a private donation from the acclaimed author James Michener. The Blanton took an early leadership role in the promotion and preservation of Latin American art, founded on the donation of some two hundred paintings and 1,200 drawings from the collection of John and Barbara Duncan. Other permanent holdings include the C. R. Smith Collection of Paintings of the American West, and nearly one thousand contemporary prints donated by Charles Clark of McAllen, Texas. Now, the museum has over 17,000 works in its permanent collection.

The museum also offers a great number of traveling exhibitions, with topics that range from cultural to political art. Whether featuring the sculpture of New York's Park Place Gallery Cooperative, the performance-installation work of Michael Smith and Joshua White, woodcuts and engravings by Albrecht Drer, or Rembrandt's etchings, the rotating exhibitions are world-class.

The public programs available at the Blanton are diverse and exciting. They offer public tours of the museum, guided by knowledgeable docents who can answer questions about the collections and exhibits. Each month, they host an art party known as "B-Scene," featuring live music by Austin bands, gallery tours, art-making activities, light snacks, and a cash bar featuring their signature cocktail, the Blantini. The last Tuesday of the month brings the Bach Cantata project, a choral performance held in the majestic atrium of the museum. Hot Art Hip Kids is a program for children, and for adults, they also offer educational lectures on their exhibitions, as well as Third Thursday, a themed event held in the evenings. Classes and workshops on many different subjects are also available.

With the opening of the new Blanton in April 2006-following a 2 1/2 year building project the museum was for the first time able to house all of its collections under one roof, becoming the premier art museum in Central Texas. In its new home, with its rich and versatile collections, magnificent galleries, fun and diverse programming, and an enthusiastic and committed group of staff and volunteers, the museum continues its mission to promote the arts in Austin to the students attending the University of Texas of Austin and the general public.

At Summer Camp Students Learn That It's Fun and Exciting Outside of Their Comfort Zone

Everybody's familiar with the concept of the comfort zone. It's where we live most of the time. Some of our campers describe what it's like inside their comfort zones: comfortable, safe, familiar, and... boring. As they explore their comfort zones, they realize that it's a great place to feel safe, but no learning or growing can take place there. Outside the comfort zone is the only place where they can take risks, discover, meet people, have fun - and learn.Masking, bookworming, conformity, and FIMAGE are about staying inside the comfort zone. They're buffers between us and the exciting parts of life. When teens think of it this way, life outside the comfort zone appeals to their sense of adventure. They're not into boring. They like excitement.Teens know what it's like outside their comfort zones. They've all been there. And they've all had positive experiences there: the first time they tried to rollerblade, drive a car, sing karaoke. They recall that these moments were uncomfortable, awkward, and even a little scary. But what a rush it was when they discovered they could do it!Campers who understand the difference between life inside and outside their comfort zones understand that they can't go for these incredible experiences and stay anonymous behind their images, beneath their masks, or with their noses in a book. It doesn't work. They understand that they have to let go of how they look if they want to take on the adventure.Once they've spent time exploring this idea they're hungry to experience life outside their comfort zones firsthand. One of our traditions is to put on a familiar piece of music while campers form a circle. It's a team-building, energizing activity where teens have an opportunity to dance across the circle in whatever manner they choose. For some it's the first time they've been fully themselves in a long time.Stepping outside the comfort zone is all about seizing the moment - grabbing whatever adventure the present has to offer. The Key of Excellence we call "This Is It!" is about being aware of the present moment - and always making the most it.This key helps teens journey outside their comfort zones because it's all about embracing whatever life brings, even if - especially if - it isn't what they expected. When they apply this key they discover that when they're in the now, life is more exciting. When they're fully in the moment they're vibrant, alive, supercharged. They enjoy what they're doing more, get more out of it, and are better at it. As one teen put it, when you're committed to being in the moment, you're "riding life 'til the wheels fall off."A SuperCamp program grad, Grayson, wrote that he drew a lot of strength from this key: "I've gained the power not to be so shy. I've learned that it's really a good thing for a guy to be open and sensitive. The key for me is This Is It! My life is fulfilled if I live each day as if it were my last."

Astrology Charts Its Origin and Interpretation

Astrology is often used for knowing and predicting the future.

The term Astrology came from the Greek word "astron" which means "star", and "logos" meaning "study". Astrology also means knowing or learning about the traditions and beliefs. This is where in an information of the relative positions of different kinds of celestial bodies plus its associated details are held very useful in accepting, interpreting, and arranging personalities, human relationships, and other earthly matters.

A person who studies astrology is usually called an astrologer, or, sometimes an astrologist. A number of traditions for these relative astrological ideas that arose along the initial period of the third millennium even Before Christ are, up to now, being applied. Aside from this, Astrology played a major role in shaping our culture, as well as in instilling other teachings throughout our history.

Astrology and astronomy is sometimes impossible to differentiate especially in the modern era. With the belief in foretelling and divinatory information, this made it become one of the basic influential factors for astronomical observation. Thus, Astronomy, subsequent to this, started to move away from astrology and follow a period of slow division from the Renaissance even up to the eighteenth century. In the long run, astronomy identifies itself as a methodical study of astronomical objects and phenomena which lacks the regard for the astrological assumption of these phenomena.

Astrology is also commonly defined as the study of hypothetical influences of the cosmos living on earth. Modern astrologers describe astrology as an emblematic language, an art form, and lastly a form of prediction. In spite of various differences of definitions, a most common theory of astrology is the use of outer space or celestial placements in order to clarify past and present events as well as predict the future. The overwhelming mass of the scientific society considers astrology a fallacy. Faith in astrology remains prevalent, with 30 to 35% of Americans trusting in it. Thus, according to a separate study, 40% considers it scientific.

The beginning of the astrological technique that would later build up in most parts of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East are found in the middle of the ancient Babylonians and their classification of celestial omens which started to be compiled approximately in the middle of the 2nd millennium BCE. This classification of famous celestial omens were later on spread also indirectly or directly all over the Assyrians and Babylonians as well as to other places such as the Middle East, India and Greece, where in, it merged with pre-existing native forms of astrology. This so called Babylonian astrology went to Greece as early as the middle part of the 4th century BCE. Then during the early part of the first century BCE, just right after the Alexandrian conquests.

However, this Babylonian astrology was somehow mixed with the Egyptian custom of decanic astrology in building horoscopic astrology. This new type of astrology, which originated in Alexandrian Egypt, rapidly reached across the prehistoric world of Europe, the Middle East as well as India.

Here are some tips on How to Interpret Astrology Charts

Step 1

The initial step is to accept the Chinese astrology chart by knowing the significance of the 12 houses, where in, each house represents at least one feature of your life. Almost all of the houses are evidently defined, describing to such areas like "Health", "Children" and specially "Wealth". You can check out "The Life Palace" which usually represents one's personality and even foretells one person's destiny.

Step 2

The second step is the study of the stars. Based on the order of thought, there are between 100 up to 115 stars used in the Chinese astrology charts, where in, each would represent a certain side of your life. These types of stars are mathematical symbols which represents different kinds of energies that greatly affect your life experiences.

Step 3

Look for certain patterns. Often times the patterns created are more significant than the individual stars on the chart.

Step 4

You should interpret a Chinese astrology chart with lots of intuition. Comparing their patterns and at the same time, their groupings. You can asses how these stars would go down in its corresponding houses. Thus, Chinese astrology usually leaves more space to have a meditation period about the result as compared to the conventional Western astrology.

Astrology

Astrology is one of the traditional methods of divination, which is completely based upon theory of the locations and positions of the supernal heavenly bodies like planets, sun, moon and the stars during the birth of an individual's life. While describing Astrology with respect to psychological outline, it is a kind of new age therapy that is practiced for personality examination and self-understanding. Though describing in both stipulations, astrology is a reflection of magical thinking.

While most people describe astrology as supernal belief, the Thorwald Dethlefsen describes astrology as a method of exemplifying reality. As a real fact, Astrology will be described with different connotation by several different people. A well researching scientist or fashion loved modernist will merely describe astrology as a simple concept and toughest part of science. Few people consider it as a mesmerizing art, or ability, or spiritual facts, or a psychological practice or even as a religion. While discussing in reality, Astrology is something that could be implemented with exact time of birth and the place of birth. Astrology is common to all living thing! Even your pet dog has their future presaged, if you get to know their place of birth and time of birth.

For all these reason, astrology is set to be a blend of several themes of emotion. All these confusions prevailing, people get into confusion on what to believe and what not to believe. How would you behave if someone tells you the date and time of your death, without knowing things about your style of living? That would be really scaring people out from their wits. The right birth time and place of a person will help an astrologist to calculate his/her death date! Though all these information are shared, some might believe Astrology whereas some never trust all these facts. Astrology is the influencing of natural heavenly bodies and it is described as a symbolic representation of exemplifying reality.

There are several branches in horoscopic astrology. They are described here as follows:

Basically astrology horoscope could be categorized into 4 branches that will be directed with particular field or subject. All these branches make use of specific technical approach with various applications including to the core precept of system in various area. The four principle branches of astrology are explained here for your denotation.

Natural Astrology is an examination of an individual birth chart, which acquires information about the person's life understandings.

Katarchic Astrology is a method of practice that includes electional & event astrology. This astrology will assist in determining the precious right moment to initiate a business enterprise. It also describes the best moment to set the event of the work.

Horary Astrology is a practice that is used to give answer for several queries of education chart.

Artificial Intelligence and Intuition

The intuitive algorithm

Roger Penrose considered it impossible. Thinking could never imitate a computer process. He said as much in his book, The Emperor's New Mind. But, a new book, The Intuitive Algorithm, (IA), suggested that intuition was a pattern recognition process. Intuition propelled information through many neural regions like a lightning streak. Data moved from input to output in a reported 20 milliseconds. The mind saw, recognized, interpreted and acted. In the blink of an eye. Myriad processes converted light, sound, touch and smell instantly into your nerve impulses. A dedicated region recognized those impulses as objects and events. The limbic system, another region, interpreted those events to generate emotions. A fourth region responded to those emotions with actions. The mind perceived, identified, evaluated and acted. Intuition got you off the hot stove in a fraction of a second. And it could be using a simple algorithm.

Is instant holistic evaluation impossible?

The system, with over a hundred billion neurons, processed the information from input to output in just half a second. All your knowledge was evaluated. Walter Freeman, the famous neurobiologist, defined this amazing ability. "The cognitive guys think it's just impossible to keep throwing everything you've got into the computation every time. But, that is exactly what the brain does. Consciousness is about bringing your entire history to bear on your next step, your next breath, and your next moment." The mind was holistic. It evaluated all its knowledge for the next activity. How could so much information be processed so quickly? Where could such knowledge be stored?

Exponential growth of the search path

Unfortunately, the recognition of subtle patterns posed formidable problems for computers. The difficulty was an exponential growth of the recognition search path. The problems in the diagnosis of diseases was typical. Normally, many shared symptoms were presented by a multitude of diseases. For example, pain, or fever could be indicated for many diseases. Each symptom pointed to several diseases. The problem was to recognize a single pattern among many overlapping patterns. When searching for the target disease, the first selected ailment with the first presented symptom could lack the second symptom. This meant back and forth searches, which expanded exponentially as the database of diseases increased in size. That made the process absurdly long drawn – theoretically, even years of search, for extensive databases. So, in spite of their incredible speed, rapid pattern recognition on computers could never be imagined.

Instant pattern recognition

IA was proved in practice. It had powered Expert Systems acting with the speed of a simple recalculation on a spreadsheet, to recognize a disease, identify a case law or diagnose the problems of a complex machine. It was instant, holistic, and logical. If several parallel answers could be presented, as in the multiple parameters of a power plant, recognition was instant. For the mind, where millions of parameters were simultaneously presented, real time pattern recognition was practical. And elimination was the key.

Elimination = Switching off

Elimination was switching off - inhibition. Nerve cells were known to extensively inhibit the activities of other cells to highlight context. With access to millions of sensory inputs, the nervous system instantly inhibited – eliminated trillions of combinations to zero in on the right pattern. The process stoutly used "No" answers. If a patient did not have pain, thousands of possible diseases could be ignored. If a patient could just walk into the surgery, a doctor could overlook a wide range of illnesses. But, how could this process of elimination be applied to nerve cells? Where could the wealth of knowledge be stored?

Combinatorial coding

The mind received kaleidoscopic combinations of millions of sensations. Of these, smells were reported to be recognized through a combinatorial coding process, where nerve cells recognized combinations. If a nerve cell had dendritic inputs, identified as A, B, C and so on to Z, it could then fire, when it received inputs at ABC, or DEF. It recognized those combinations. The cell could identify ABC and not ABD. It would be inhibited for ABD. This recognition process was recently reported by science for olfactory neurons. In the experiment scientists reported that even slight changes in chemical structure activated different combinations of receptors. Thus, octanol smelled like oranges, but the similar compound octanoic acid smelled like sweat. A Nobel Prize acknowledged that discovery in 2004.

Galactic nerve cell memories

Combinatorial codes were extensively used by nature. The four "letters" in the genetic code – A, C, G and T – were used in combinations for the creation of a nearly infinite number of genetic sequences. IA discusses the deeper implications of this coding discovery. Animals could differentiate between millions of smells. Dogs could quickly sniff a few footprints of a person and determine accurately which way the person was walking. The animal's nose could detect the relative odour strength difference between footprints only a few feet apart, to determine the direction of a trail. Smell was identified through remembered combinations. If a nerve cell had just 26 inputs from A to Z, it could receive millions of possible combinations of inputs. The average neuron had thousands of inputs. For IA, millions of nerve cells could give the mind galactic memories for combinations, enabling it to recognize subtle patterns in the environment. Each cell could be a single member of a database, eliminating it (becoming inhibited) for unrecognized combinations of inputs.

Elimination the key

Elimination was the special key, which evaluated vast combinatorial memories. Medical texts reported that the mind had a hierarchy of intelligences, which performed dedicated tasks. For example, there was an association region, which recognized a pair of scissors using the context of its feel. If you injured this region, you could still feel the scissors with your eyes closed, but you would not recognize it as scissors. You still felt the context, but you would not recognize the object. So, intuition could enable nerve cells in association regions to use perception to recognize objects. Medical research reported many such recognition regions.

Serial processing

A pattern recognition algorithm, intuition enabled the finite intelligences in the minds of living things to respond holistically within the 20 millisecond time span. These intelligences acted serially. The first intelligence converted the kaleidoscopic combinations of sensory perceptions from the environment into nerve impulses. The second intelligence recognized these impulses as objects and events. The third intelligence translated the recognized events into feelings. A fourth translated feelings into intelligent drives. Fear triggered an escape drive. A deer bounded away. A bird took flight. A fish swam off. While the activities of running, flying and swimming differed, they achieved the same objective of escaping. Inherited nerve cell memories powered those drives in context.

The mind – seamless pattern recognition

Half a second for a 100 billion nerve cells to use context to eliminate irrelevance and deliver motor output. The time between the shadow and the scream. So, from input to output, the mind was a seamless pattern recognition machine, powered by the key secret of intuition – contextual elimination, from massive acquired and inherited combinatorial memories in nerve cells.

Arizona Schools Must Fund English Programs Now

In Arizona schools, it is estimated that 130,000 students have a language other than English as their first language. These youngsters are not fluent in English. Unless their English-language skills are brought up, how can they be expected to get a good education?

Arizona Schools Can't Wait

These students attending Arizona schools have the right to a good education and the fact that their mother tongue is something other than English is something that needs to be dealt with. Waiting won't change the situation or improve on it.

In fact, the longer these students have to wait to get the language training they need from Arizona schools, the more they may fall behind. How can the teacher evaluate what level the students are capable of working at if there are language barriers preventing them from communicating with each other effectively?

The longer Arizona schools wait to provide the resources these students need, the more likely it is that they will end up dropping out at some point because of failure to keep up to their peers, frustration, or some other factor. When kids drop out of school, it ends up costing all of us, whether they had been attending Arizona schools or not.

When a person is unable to speak English well, they are limited in the types of work they can pursue. They will likely be stuck in low-paying jobs with little chance for advancement or end up collecting social benefits. Arizona schools must provide the services these kids need to give them the best possible chance for future success.

Arizona Schools Must Comply with Federal Law

Federal law directs that all students must be given the opportunity to learn English. Some Arizona schools have not sent in the required paper work estimating the cost to fund English-language programs to the Department of Education. Administrators at Arizona schools are aware that they need to provide English programs to these students, so what is the hold up in getting the paperwork prepared and submitted?

The state will provide funding after the request has been reviewed. Arizona schools need to put the funding request closer to the top of their list of priorities right now. A deadline was given to them to get this done almost a year ago. If they go past that date, they run the risk of being fined $1 million per day until the papers are handed in.

This issue should never have gotten to this point. To the administrators at Arizona schools - get the papers handed in - NOW! Put the funding in place so that the students who need to learn English can do so. They deserve the same chance to learn as students who learned to speak English as their first language.

Are There Different Kinds of Jews

The primary divisions among Jews beginning in the medieval period were Sephardim and Ashkenazim. Its quite clear however that dividing Jews into only these two categories is incorrect and oversimplification. The term Sephardim is derived from the Hebrew word for Spain, Sepharad. The term is first used in the Bible, but its connection to Spain or more correctly the Iberian peninsula at this time is unlikely.Eventually however the term was used for Spain, and hence Sephardim reflects Jews who were or descend from Jewish communities living in Spain and Portugal. The existence of Jewish communities in Spain dates to the early centuries of the Common Era during the Roman period. Tradition among Spanish Jews dates the existence of Jewish communities from the time of the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in the year 70 CE, while some date the existence of communities back the period of the Babylonian exile. The Jewish communities of Spain gained prominence in the Jewish world during the rise of Moorish rule in Spain, a subject which deserves its own series of posts. The historic Jewish communities of Spain and Portugal were eventually expelled in the 15th century which led to a Sephardic Diaspora Spanish and Portuguese Jewish communities in the Ottoman empire as well as in various places in Europe and eventually to the New World.Today four communities are correctly categorized under the Sephardic label, though the term Sephardic is often misused to designate other communities that were from North Africa, the Arabian peninsula, or present day Iraq and Iran. The four communities are Spanish-Portuguese, Judeo-Spanish, Moroccan Spanish, and Syrian communities. The number of Jews under all these categories has drastically fallen though communities of each continue to exist. The Ashkenazim are Jews which originated in communities in Ashkenaz, the Hebrew name for Germany. The term Ashkenaz appears in the book of Genesis in an early genealogy detailing the descendants of Noah, and it likely designated a region in Europe in later Jewish tradition, though at what time it was specifically connected with Germany is unclear.Like the term Sephardim, the term Ashkenazim has been extended to Jewish communities in other regions, though perhaps less inappropriately than the former term. The term correctly covers those Jewish communities that lived in medieval France and Germany. It was later used in referring to Jews in Poland, Russian, as well as other communities of Eastern Europe. The Ashkenazim today typify the communities that most people associate with Jews. In the United States, the overwhelming majority of Jews are Ashkenazic background, though interestingly, the first four Jewish communities in the United States were founded by Spanish and Portuguese Jews.

An Online Bachelor Degree From the Comfort of Your Home

Forget about sitting in a classroom for hours on end listening to a professor lecture about the impact of the United States stock market on the world's economy or how leadership in management positions is an essential role in the success of a business. Since the inception of the Internet, businesses, the government and other organizations have moved to make their establishments more web-based. The idea of utilizing the World Wide Web in everyday business functions has also gravitated towards educational institutions. Colleges and universities are now offering programs that take advantage of the Internet, such as an online bachelor degree or other degree programs.

An online bachelor degree is just like a bachelor degree offered at a traditional university or college. The one exception is, however, that students attending an online institution complete their course work over the Internet, as opposed to sitting in a classroom. The idea of completing course work online gives students the flexibility and convenience of being able to make their own schedules. Going to class at a certain time everyday of the week is not feasible for some people that carry full-time jobs or those that are parents raising children. By taking classes online, students can work around their job schedule, as well as their family's schedule.

There are a number of ways an online bachelor degree program can work, depending on the institution offering the program. In some instances, students are emailed course assignments and correspond with professors and other students through email. Some institutions offer chat rooms that professors set up so that students can interact with one another and ask questions that relate to the course work. Most professors also have websites that students can visit to look at the syllabus, obtain course assignments and find resources. Any way an online program is organized, the course work can be completed in the comfort of a student's home.

It is important to keep in mind crucial deciding factors that should be considered when researching an online bachelor degree. Typically, the cost to attend an online institution is not as high as if a student were to attend a traditional college or university. There are no room and board charges because a student can stay where he or she is currently living and attend school. There are also not as many student fees associated because of the limited number of facilities associated with an online institution that need to be maintained. Because the course work is web based, there is not a need for numerous buildings housing different departments and classrooms.

Another deciding factor is the type of program an online degree offers. Programs depend on the type of institution offering the degree. An online bachelor degree is offered in a variety of programs and includes numerous concentrations. Students can study a business program with concentrations in accounting, management, marketing and business administration. Programs are also offered in computers and information technology, health and medical services management, as well as criminal justice. Each program is offered online and offers course work unique to each program.

A bachelor degree that is completed online is a feasible option for someone who already has diploma, certificate or a two-year degree, such as an associate degree and wants to further his or her education. Often, online students are professionals already in the career field that either want to advance in their current job or are looking to switch career fields. Because classes are completed online, it gives professionals the flexibility they need to accomplish their career goals.

All About Accreditation

Accreditation is one of the most significant elements when choosing an online high school course. Parents as well as potential students should do their homework to make sure that an exacting school is qualified by the right type of organization.Accreditation is the procedure of reviewing online high school's courses and policies to make out if it meets certain criteria, usually set by an outside organization. When a school is found to meet the smallest amount of criteria, it is granted accreditation.Accreditation is intended to defend students, schools, as well as employers. It makes sure that an online high school is teaching its students at a countrywide satisfactory stage. When students get a diploma from a qualified high school, they are able to be guaranteed that it will be documented by colleges and established by employers. Similarly, when a college is accepting students or a boss is looking to employ, they can be guaranteed that a student or potential employee has got quality training from a qualified high school. The fact is anyone can declare to have the authority to grant official approval to schools. Realize that not all accreditation is identical. Accreditation from the incorrect source can be only as bad as no accreditation by any means. Be in no doubt to ensure whether your school is documented by the U.S. Department of Education. You can visit the department's listings of nationwide and local accrediting companies. You can as well check with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). CHEA is a non-government organization that recognizes accrediting agencies in the United States and aids to organize policy and investigate on accreditation materials.

Algebra Present and Past

What is Algebra? Algebra is one of the many branches of mathematics. This branch of math utilizes mathematical equations to describe the relationships between any two things that may change over a period of time. Whenever a math equation has to represent something that fluctuates and does not stay the same, letters or symbols are often used to represent the varying quantity. This letter or symbol is called a variable because it varies.

The very start of modern algebra began with the ancient Babylonians. They were the very first people who used an advanced math system for their time. This math used an algebraic system to do calculations, and it enabled the Babylonians to utilize formulas and calculate the answer using unknown values for a problem class that would be solved in the modern day by quadratic equations, linear equations, and indeterminate linear equations. During this same time period in the first millennium BC, most of the mathematicians in India, China, Greece, and Egypt were using geometric methods to solve such equations. The word algebra comes from the Arabic word al-jabar, which means reunion of the broken parts. A Persian Muslim
mathematician named Muhammad ibn Masa al-khwarizmi wrote a book in 820 whose title is translated to mean The book of Summary Concerning Calculating by Transposition and Reduction. There is debate in math circles on whether the mathematician Diophantes, who has always been known as the father of Algebra, or Al-Khwarizmi should actually be named the father of Algebra. There is support for Al-Khwarizmi instead of Diophantes because a lot of his work on reduction is still currently in use today. He also explained how to solve a quadratic very extensively.

In the fourteenth century the word algeber referred to bone setting, which is quite similar to the original meaning of the word. The mathematical form of the word that is spelled algebra had made its debut by the sixteenth century. A man by the name of Robert Recorde was the very first person to use the term algebra in its mathematical meaning. He was also the inventor of the equality symbol(=). The original meaning of the word Algebra would refer today to the sub class of elementary algebra. There are numerous different fields of algebra in the modern definition of the word.

Some of these other mathematic fields include elementary algebra, s-algebra, abstract algebra, geometric algebra, boolean algebra, linear algebra, and many more. The mastery of elementary algebra must be accomplished before calculus or any of the other advanced mathematics can be learned. Many careers today require that at least elementary algebra has been mastered. The symbolism that is first introduced in elementary algebra extends throughout all the fields of mathematics. This is because the symbolism is the letters in the language of math. Modern fields of algebra are vastly more advanced than the first equations and formulas that were developed by the Babylonians. Numerous jobs and careers in the modern work environment require that algebra is mastered as a legitimate requirement for employment.

Algebra in Real Life

Who was Fibonacci, and why was he so important? Fibonacci was also called Leonardo of Pisa. He was born in Pisa, Italy in the year 1175, and Fibonacci was known as one of the best mathematicians in Europe during his time. Very little is known about Fibonacci and his life. It is not known how he died, if he ever had children, or anything else about the personal life of Fibonacci. There is a statue of him in his hometown of Pisa, but it is not known if the statue even looks like Fibonacci.

What is known about Fibonacci is that he grew up in Northern Africa. His father served as a customs officer on the African coast. It is thought that Fibonacci ran into some of the Mediterranean merchants, and they introduced him to the Hindu Arabic arithmetic system. Fibonacci acquired quite an extensive knowledge of the Hindu arithmetic. He even described this knowledge in his book, the Liber Abbaci, which became famous. This book by Fibonacci contains his findings on the Hindu Arabic numbers. The book is also a compilation of the experiences that Fibonacci had, but the original manuscript of the book has never been found. The role that Fibonacci played in the transformation of the eastern mathematics concepts into the European terminology was a major one. The fascination of the numbers in arithmetic is what led to the discovery of the numbers theory by Fibonacci.

Fibonacci has been recognized by math historians as the greatest European mathematician of all time. The popularity of Fibonacci was due to his greatness concerning the field of numbers theory. Stock market analysts actually use the name Fibonacci quite often. The Fibonacci principle is the same as the golden ratio. This is a powerful stock market tool that is used to assess stock price trends.

There is also a graph named after Fibonacci, which is widely used in the today's market. This graph utilizes numbers probability to forecast stock market index fluctuations. Fibonacci, however, was not intrigued by the practical aspect of math. Instead his interest lay in solving theoretical problems. The greatest contribution that was made by Fibonacci was in his theory of numbers. There is a sequence in math, called the Fibonacci sequence that shows his ability to solve even the most difficult of number problems. By using the most powerful methods available, Fibonacci would derive the best formula to solve the mathematical problem.

Even after his death, the legacy of Fibonacci still remains intact. The history of his work is still alive in modern times. Fibonacci had the outstanding ability to solve even the most difficult of mathematical problems, and that is evident in numerous history books.

Evidence of the success of Fibonacci in the mathematical world is seen by the fact that stock market tools and graphs are named after him. He was an early pioneer in the mathematics field, and the contributions of Fibonacci to mathematics are responsible in part for modern mathematics today.

Algae

Is it a plant? Is it an organism? Algae are very unusual! Algae are microscopic organisms, and are usually believed to be just simple aquatic plants. Pond scum, really. But it may amaze you to learn that some algae display characteristics we would normally associate with an animal. Characteristics like motility and a cell structure more like bacteria than plants.

Algae can come in a variety of sizes from microscopic to dramatically large. As well, algae are not just water-based. Algae also live in soil, snow, fungus, and animals. But water based Algae, which is what we're looking at today, can be found in both fresh and marine waters.

There are many types of water-based algae, so we will quickly review just a few of them here so you know the difference.

The algae that grows on rocks or plants in the water is one kind. Another kind is more commonly referred to as seaweed because it grows into the water but is attached to a larger stem-like structure.

Water-based algae, in many cases, are also called "phytoplankton", and it is one of the key ingredients that take carbon dioxide out of the air and replace it with oxygen! We need water-based algae (phytoplankton) to live, and they account for a lot of the carbon dioxide/oxygen replacement in the world today.

Often, algae are referred to by colour. Plank tonic algae, like the kind described above, are called green algae. There are other kinds, too, referred to as blue green algae. Blue-green algae is a type of bacteria, even though it has plant-like characteristics as well, and they grow everywhere, including dams, rivers, creeks, and hot springs.

Okay, so you've probably read more than you wanted to about algae. And there's a lot more that you apparently don't need to know. Essentially know this: Phytoplankton is a type of algae that we want lots of in the world to help scrub our atmosphere of greenhouse gases. Blue-green algae, although it also releases oxygen, also has a different effect.

Blue-green algae grow and rise to the surface where it accumulates into a large bloom. These blooms take on other colours, including brown and red. And as an outcome of this bacteria blooming in the water, bad things occur. In fact, the term "red tide" when referring to water-based algae blooms, is never a good thing.

Because blue-green algae are bacteria, it tends to grow where bacteria would typically grow: in areas with high nutrient levels, slow rivers, low wind, and warmer temperatures. When this happens, bad water can result. While usually people think of algae as being a plant that grows, you might think of blue-green algae and the resultant bloom as bacteria that fester.

At a very basic level, blue-green algae can create unpleasant water. For example, it can leave water with an unpleasant odour and taste; it can clog machinery filters; it can fluctuate the pH balance in water, turning alkaline water acidic and acidic water alkaline; it can pull the oxygen out of the water and both fish and humans need water with oxygen in it to live!

While those are unpleasant and sometimes dangerous results of algae blooms in the water, there are other potential risks as well. Algae blooms can create Hepatoxins which attack the liver and other internal organs and promote cancer. Algae blooms can create Neurotoxins which can lead to respiratory arrest. Algae blooms can create Endotoxins which irritate the skin and also cause stomach cramps, nausea, fever and headaches if consumed.

So how bad can algae blooms get? Why can't we just swim around them or scoop them up? Because they can grow tremendously huge! One algae bloom in 1991 was reported to be over 600 miles long!

What causes blue-green algae to become so dangerous? There are a few things. The first suggestion is the use of fertilizers and sewage that eventually works its way back into the water system. (Sure we use it on the soil, but we live in an interconnected Geo-system that has rainfall soaking the ground, draining off the land into the water, and getting evaporated into the sky. On the way, it picks up all the bad things we leave in the ground).

Another problem that allows blue-green algae to bloom is called thermal stratification. This is a noticeable difference in the layers in a river, where a quickly flowing surface does not actually mix with a slower moving bottom layer. These two distinctly different layers of water allow algae to grow in large proportions, but remain in one layer; however when a temperature changes as the result of seasonal fluctuations, the algae mixes and moves, and blooms can develop.

So how does global warming affect, or get affected by, algae blooms? Algae blooms can have a negative impact on the delicate ecosystem that requires balance to thrive. This is because blooms can virtually kill water, reducing its impact on scrubbing carbon dioxide. And, because temperature changes often act as a catalyst for algae blooms, our warming planet may exacerbate more blooms! Also, the more we use fertilizers or allow sewage to seep back into our water systems, the more we'll see the proliferation of algae blooms over time.

So what's the answer? It's easy to simply say "don't use fertilizer" or "don't let sewage get into the water system", but it's quite another thing to manage it. After all, reverse thinking suggests that a greater amount of fertilizer will theoretically grow more plants which will feed more people. So you might think of it this way: more well-fed scientists can spend time thinking how to reduce algae blooms, than a few poorly fed scientists can spend time thinking how to grow plants without using fertilizer.

And, as our understanding of DNA structure develops, scientists may be able to develop a super-phytoplankton that uses elements of good green phytoplankton that currently scrubs our atmosphere with the aggressive and migratory nature of blue-green algae to create a phytoplankton that can respond to atmospheric changes and congregate where it is needed most.

Air Pressure Feel the Weight on Your Shoulders

The weight of air resting on a given area of the Earth's surface is known as air pressure. Air pressure (or atmospheric pressure) is always greatest at sea level, where the air is at its most dense. Therefore at the top of a mountain the air is less dense and therefore the pressure is lower.

The air is composed of billions of tiny particles that are constantly moving in all directions, bouncing off whatever they encounter. These collisions constitute what is known as air pressure. The more collisions occurring within a certain area then the greater the air pressure will be.

We are completely unaware of this, but the air is constantly exerting pressure on us, on average this is 14 ¾ pounds per square inch. (1 kg per sq cm ) . Air molecules are naturally drawn towards the earth by gravity, and as a consequence the density of the air is greater near the surface of the earth. Therefore the number of molecules in a given area, the air pressure, decreases with altitude. These molecules are in constant motion and this prevents them from settling at ground level.

At sea level, standard air pressure is 1013, but typically the pressure varies between 980 and 1040 millibars (mb). As with any aspect of the atmosphere there are extremes and the highest and lowest recorded pressures are as follows:

The highest recorded atmospheric pressure, 1085.7 mb, occurred at Tonsontsengel, Mongolia, 19 December 2001.

The lowest sea level air pressure ever recorded was 870 mb in the eye of Typhoon Tip over the Pacific Ocean on October 12th 1979

Air pressure is measured using a barometer. Although the changes are usually too slow to observe directly, air pressure is almost always changing.

Weather maps showing the pressure at the surface are drawn using millibars. Air pressure can tell us about what kind of weather to expect as well. Winds blow in an attempt to combat the differences in air pressure. Wind is the movement of air over the surface of the Earth, from areas of high pressure to low pressure. A large change in pressure over a relatively small distance, a large pressure gradient, can result in far stronger winds. When the isobars are tightly packed, locations within that large pressure gradient can expect windy conditions. As air rises and creates an area of low pressure, water vapour in the atmosphere will condense and form clouds. However sinking air, in an area of high pressure, means that no condensation will take place. This is why low pressure is associated with cloudy skies and unsettled conditions, and high pressure is associated with clearer skies and drier conditions.

Winds near the Earth's surface rotate anti clockwise toward the centre of areas of low pressure and clockwise outward from the centre of areas of high pressure in the Northern Hemisphere, with an opposite flow (clockwise around areas of low pressure and counter clockwise around areas of high pressure) occurring in the Southern Hemisphere. The main reason for this pattern is the Coriolis force, which results from the Earth's rotation on its axis and deflects wind to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere.

So keep tapping your barometers and feel the weight of the air pressing in around you!
